Explain ‘Metals generally show the tendency of producing positive iron’.

Before I go ahead with the answer I'd like to correct the word iron. It's ion.
So, metals generally show tendency of producing positive ion. That is because they have less than four electrons in outermost shell and its easier for them to attain noble gas configuration by losing electrons. This leads to a positive charge and so the ions formed are positively charged.
