When force is applied on an object it results in movement of that object and the work is done. That's why, work=force*distance. eg: Suppose a vehicle starts moving, when it moves it travel some distance and the force is applied on it. In this way, work is done on moving vehicle.

A moving object will possess a non zero velocity therefore there will be displacement, and some force have caused that object to move. So, we have both force and displacement so a moving object does work.
