Mutation is the sudden change in the genetic composition of an individual organisms. This changes leads to natural selection and make these groups of organism reproductively isolated from ancestor group.
For instance, the red winged black bird. It was a recent change. The bird is 99.9% the same. The only difference is a tiny visible red feather on the wing. Currently the red winged black bird is on its way to be a new species. The reds don’t prefer the non-reds, and the non-reds highly prefer the reds.
