When an acidic substance reacts with a basic substance to form the respective salt, along with water, it is called neutralisation reaction. A neutralisation reaction leads to formation of three type of salts :-

  • Acidic salt - When a strong acid reacts with a weak base to form salt and water, it is called acidic salt. Example: NH₄OH + HCl = NH₄Cl + H₂O -That is formation of ammonium chloride
  • Basic salt : When a weak acid reacts with a strong base to form salt and water, it is called basic salt. Example: CH₃COOH + NaOH = CH₃COONa + H₂O
  • Neutral Salt : When a strong acid reacts with a strong base or a weak acid reacts with a weak base to form salt and water, it is called as a neutral salt. Example : NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H₂0

That is it.
