In the the Poem The Sower by Victor Hugo, the Farming and the life of a farmer is the main theme of the poem and the poet elucidates his feelings for the farmer together with the comprehensive description about the nature surrounding  the farmer.  This is about a farmer's struggles and his resolve to do what he can even though the others go away.

The poet says that there is nothing in the land but for the shadows that spread all over the places, that is, dark images and over shadows  are spreading all around the nature. Suddenly, the poet sees one sower who is standing alone in the fields. The sower stays there and is standing patiently. He is in his old rags
  • ‘Old in rags, he patient stands’ this line says about the old sower and his cloths, how muddy and tattered it is; however, the poet is much thrilled to see the sower's peaceful and calm in the field.
