• Matter is made up of Particles: All matters are made up of billions of particles. (Activity: Salt is added to water.)
• Matter is very tiny: All kinds of matter have particles in it which are very tiny but it found large amounts. (Activity: Potassium Permanganate is added to water.)
Characteristics of particles of Matter:
• Particles of Matter have space in them: All types of matter have space in them. Solidm3 is the SI unit of volume. 1ml = 1 cm3
• Particles of Matter are continuously moving: Particles is air move faster which increases the KE which increases the diffusion.. (Activity: Incense Stick.) Dr. Robert Brown observed random motion in air and named it as Brownian motion. The Particles move freely due to continuous movement of particles in air.
• Particles of matter attract each other: Particles of a same kind of matter attract the each other. (Activity: when two droplets of water are kept closer they tend to get attracted.)
• Kinetic Energy of Matter increases with the increase in temperature: When temperature increases the KE also increases with the increase in temperature
