Transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma of a plant is known as pollination. It occurs for fertilization.
Types :
There are two types of pollination.
1) Self Pollination
2) Cross Pollination
• Self Pollination :
When pollen grain transfer from anther to stigma of a same plant.
External agents are not required.
Occurs in bisexual flower.
Example : Wheat, rice etc.
• Cross Pollination :
When pollen grain transfer from anther to stigma of another plant.
External agents like wind, water, insects etc are required.
Occurs in both bisexual and unisexual flowers.
Example : Cucurbits, apple etc.
