Since its inception in 1960 , and also of predecessor states such as Bombay, the politics of the Maharashtra has been dominated by the Indian National Congress party.

The government of Maharashtra is headed by the Chief Minister, who is chosen by the party or alliance with a majority of members in the Legislative Assembly. The Chief Minister, along with the council of ministers, drives the legislative agenda and exercises most of the executive powers.

He belongs to the Political party Shiv Sena .

The present governor is Bhagat Singh Koshyari of the Bhartiya Janta Party.

Each city consist of a seperate DM, Mayor or leader.

The political system is Democratic in maharashtra.

The system of choosing the government is free & fair election at election booth.
