India is the largest producer and consumer of pulses in the world.Pulses are important source of protein and minerals and are also known as poor man's meat. Pulses need less soil moisture and can survive in dry conditions.
Being a leguminous crops, pulses a key role in crop rotation (except arhar) as they have ability to fix nitrogen and restore soil fertility. Major pulses that are grown in India are tur(arhar),urad, moong, masur, peas and gram.
