In order for chemical reactions to occur, the reactant particles must collide with each other with sufficient energy (called en effective collision). This will lead to a chemical reaction in which existing chemical bonds are broken and new bonds are formed.

In the video, the same powdered material is burned in two different ways.

When in a pile, the powder has less surface area exposed to the air which means there are less effective collisions with oxygen.

When suspended in air, the powder has much greater surface area exposed to the air. This means there will be a much greater frequency of effective collisions with oxygen and a faster rate of reaction.
