Respiration is an exothermic reaction because in respiration glucose is oxidized to form carbon dioxide, water and heat is envolved. As heat energy is released during respiration it is regarding as exothermic reaction.

Respiration is a burning process of food in body to produce energy. Respiration is considered as an exothermic reaction because, in respiration process, oxidation of glucose takes place which produces a large amount of heat energy which stored in the form of ATP. This is shown in following chemical equation
C6 H12 O6 +6O2 →6CO2 +H2O+energy (ATP)
