On the basis of the distribution of components, mixtures can be classified as homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures. If in a mixture, components are evenly distributed throughout the mixture such solution is called as homogenous mixtures.

For example, when we dissolve table salt (sodium chloride) in water and stir the mixture, salt distributes evenly throughout the mixture and we cannot separate particles of salt from water by simple filtration method. The same type of mixture is formed by sugar in water. Another type of mixtures is heterogeneous mixtures. In such kind of mixtures, we can easily differentiate between both components as they are immiscible in each other.

We can easily separate by filtration method. Sand in water and oil in water are good examples of heterogeneous mixtures. Homogenous mixtures are also called as solutions. A solution is composed of two components; solute and solvent.

Definition of an unsaturated solution:
For the formation of a solution, we add solute in a solvent. Initially, solute dissolves in the solvent and makes a uniform solution. Such solutions in which more solute can be dissolved are called as unsaturated solutions.
Example:
Salt in water or sugar in water can be unsaturated solutions if they can dissolve more solute in them.  Iced tea and coffee are other examples of unsaturated solutions.
Saturated solution definition:A saturated solution can be defined as a solution which dissolves solute until it is unable to dissolve anymore and leaving the un-dissolved at the bottom.
Example:
Carbonated water that is saturated solution of carbon dioxide in water. We can make saturated solutions of sugar or salt in water or detergent in water. Our earth crust is saturated solution of nitrogen. Table salts in vinegar, coffee powder in water, chocolate powder in water, milk in flour are also good examples of saturated solutions.
