Spermatozoa are the mature male gametes in many sexually reproducing organisms. Thus, spermatogenesis is the male version of gametogenesis, of which the female equivalent is oogenesis

Definition:

Spermatogenesis is the process by which haploid spermatozoa develop from germ cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testis.

Steps :

The process by which stem cells develop into mature spermatozoa.

There are three phases:

(1) Spermatocytogenesis (Mitosis),

(2) Meiosis, and

(3) Spermiogenesis.

Result :

Four sperm result from each primary spermatocyte, which divides into two haploid secondary spermatocytes;

These cells will go through a second meiotic division to produce 4 spermatids.

4 sperm result from each primary spermatocyte that goes through meiosis.
