surface tension: the tangentual force per unit length ,acting at right angles on either side if a line imaginned to be drawn on the free surface in a equilibrium is called surface tension.

the free surface of a liquid behaves like a streched elastic membrane or a streched rubber sheet.the fre surface of liquid is in the state of tension.

surface tension :- it is the property of liquid by virtue of which the free surface of a liquid behaves like an elastic stretched membrane a tendency to contract so, as to ocuupy a minimum surface area .
the si unit of Surface tension is Nm-¹ and its dimension formula is [ MT-²]
