such reactions show the acidic nature of phenols and from salts.
(A)reaction with metal : phenol reacts with metal like sodium metal to form sodium phenate and releases hydrogen gas.
(B) reaction with acid chlorides and anhydrides : phenol reacts with acid chlorides (RCOCl) and anhydrides (RCOOCOR) to form esters . Reaction is catalysed by pyridine or any acid like concentrated sulphuric acid .
C6H5OH + RCOCl -> C6H5OCOR + HCl
C6H5OH + RCOOCOR -> C6H5OCOR + RCOOH

phenol is very weak acid ,phenol lose a hydrogen ion because the phenoxide ion formed is stabilised to some extent.
