Autonomous Nervous System is that part of the brain which controls unconscious processes like heart rate, respiration, digestion and so on.

  • The Autonomous Nervous System has two main parts: Sympathetic  and Parasympathetic.
  • The Autonomous Nervous System is largely controlled by the hypothalamus which is found just above the brain stem.
  • ANS part of the Central Nervous System controls the  smooth muscles of the internal organs and thus, regulate the vital functions of the body.
  • The Sympathetic division prepares the body for stressful situations.
  • On the other hand, the Parasympathetic division controls the body processes during ordinary conditions.
