Body Mass Index is a simple calculation using a person's height and weight. The formula is BMI = kg/m2 where kg is a person's weight in kilograms and m2 is their height in metres squared. A BMI of 25.0 or more is overweight, while the healthy range is 18.5 to 24.9. BMI applies to most adults 18-65 years.
BMI ( body mass index ) is a way to describe an individual height and weight in one number.
BMI enables to tell someone health condition means whether he/she is healthy or not one can find easily with the calculation through BMI.
Now , formulas for finding BMI is :
BMI range and health status:
- If <18.5(under weight)
- if 18.5-24.9(Normal weight)[Good value ]
- 25.0-29.9( over weight)
Lets take an example : A boy of height 1.65 m and having weight of 68 kg.Calculate his BMI
Hence ,BMI is little good as it lies around between 18.5-24.90
If we round off 24.98 it becomes 25 which is over weight not good.
