Political causes
*Britishers initiated the doctrine of lapse according to which the provinces without natural heirs would merge into british land.
*Britishers started the subsidiary alliance that threatened the sovereignty of the province.
* Many provinces like awadh was annexed on the factor that it was misgoverned.
Military cause
*British soldiers and indian soldiers were discriminated on the ground of salary and promotion.
*The indian soldiers were forced to use greased cartridges that hurt their religious sentiments.
*They were forced to work abroad which was against their religious ethics.
Economic causes
* Indian goods suffered as british cheaper products flooded the market.
*Britishers imposed high tax and custom duties on Indian peasants.
* After the annexation on provinces the officials and nobles were fired from their job and the army was disbanded.
* Indian craftsmen that entertained the royality in the courts lost their livelihood after the annexation of indian provinces.
