• The main details are the points that are the most significant. The supporting details are points that back up the main details.

• The supporting details are minor points that correlate to the main point.  

• A piece of writing should never begin with a supporting point, nor should it end with one, it simply exists to highlight and extend the main detail.  

• Starting or ending with supporting details will confirm that the reader will almost instantly forget the piece and they may even find it dull because it does not show consistency.
