It is the oldest landmass and divided into Central Highlands and Deccan Plateau.

The Central Highlands :

(i) Made up of hard igneous and metamorphic rocks.

(ii) Old Aravallis borders northwest.

(iii) Malwa Plateau in west and Chhota Nagpur in the east.

(iv) Bundelkhand in Southern UP and Baghelkhand in Northern Madhya Pradesh.

(v) Drained by tributaries of Yamuna and Ganga.                                                    
The Deccan Plateau :

(i) Extends from river Narmada to southern tip.

(ii) Oldest block made up of igneous and metamorphic rocks.

(iii) Satpura range, Mahadev hills, Maikal range covers Northern Edge.

(iv) Eastern Edge is marked by Eastern Ghats.

(v) Western Edge is marked by Western Ghats.
