Answer:

Circumstances leading to French Revolution

All revolutions, starting with bloodless revolution in England in 1688 to Russian revolution of 1918, are caused by following four points. The names and character may change, but causes remain the same :-

1) Financial - Due to heavy involvement of French in the seven years war (1756-1763) and again in the American war of revolution (1776-1783), the french government became debt ridden. It lead to shortages of food / increase in food pricing.

Inspite of this, the taxes remained high leading to dismay among common people.

2) Political - King Louis xvi and his wife Mary Antoinette, rather than comforting people were enjoying their evening balls at Versailles. 'Let them have cake if they can't have bread', was their most common response.

3) Social - There was huge gap between rich and poor leading to social chaos. Situation is worse if the government is looking like they don't care.

4) Challenging Ideas - Ideas from great thinkers like Rousseau, Voltaire, etc were changing mindsets of french people. These great souls spoke about freedom, disadvantages of monarchy, release from oppression, etc.

Instead of listening, the government simply started harsh measures to stop expansion of ideas. They jailed or put people in exile, instead of taking corrective measures.

It all boiled down to a hot day of July 14 1789, when french people broke into a prison called Bastille in Paris and started the revolution, which changed the history of mankind forever. Since then July 14,is called 'Bastille Day', and is officially French National Day.

Poor Louis Xvi and Marie Antoinette lost their heads, by 1793.

The revolution of the french, lead to rise of Napoléon Bonaparte within next 10 years.
