cleansing action of soap is explained on the basis of formation of soap films in water. This film in water is called micelles.
The hydrocarbon parts of soap molecules hate water. Therefore they come together and micelles takes place.

soap is sodium stearate in water soap gives the ions stearate anion and sodium ion.
in stearate anion ,coo- grp as affinity for water is called hydrophilic group .
