It can contain not less than 40 and not more than one-third the strength of the State Legislative Assembly.

It cannot be dissolved.

The members of the Vidhan Parishad are partly elected and partly nominated. Every 2 years, one-third of its members retire.

One-third of its members is elected by the local bodies which include the municipalities and Zila Parishads.

One-twelfth of its members are elected by teachers.

One-twelfth of its members are elected by graduates.
