The term liberalism derives from the Latin root liberal means free. liberalism meant different things to different people.
1. politically liberalism emphasized the concept of government by consent.
a. libralism stood for the end of autocracy and privileges of the clergy.

d. it stood for freedom for the individual and equality of all before the law.
