Explain the concept scattering of light.
Answers
Scattering of light :-
1) Blue colour of sky :
When sun light passes to the atmosphere it is scattered by air molecules, and dust particles as wavelength of the violet and blue is small. So, the amount of blue light is scattered more than the violet. That's why sky appears blue.

2) Black colour of the sky :
If earth has no atmosphere then there will be no scattering of light. And then the sky appears black.

3) Danger signals are red :
Red has higher wavelength than other colours due to this it is not scattered by dust particles and air molecules. That's why danger signals are red in colour.
And many more like ..
Clouds appear white, Sun looks reddish as the time of sunset and sunrise, Rainbow formation etc.

Answer:
Scattering of light is a phenomenon in which a particle disperses ray of light in different directions . The size of particle of the medium should be less than the wavelength of light for scattering to occur .
Some common examples are → appearance of blue sky , formation of rainbow .
