When a body is immersed in a liquid , the following two forces act on it:
1) The weight of body acting vertically downward.
2) The upthrust, of liquid acting vertically upward which will be equal in magnitude with weight of liquid displaced.
Conditions for flotation of object:
Case1:
When weight of body is equal to weight of liquid displaced.
Case2:
When weight of body is less than the weight of liquid displaced by it when it is immersed in the liquid.
