Answer:

CONSTRUCTION OF ELECTRIC GENERATOR ARE GIVEN BELOW:

a) An electric generator cosnist of coil ABCD placed between two permanent magnets.

b) The two ends of the coil are connected to the two rings, R1 and R2.

c) The two brushes are kept pressed seperately,B1 and B2 on the rings R1 and R2.

WORKING OF ELECTRIC GENERATOR:

a) The two rings R1 an R2 are internally attached to an axle which may be mechanically rotate from outside to rotate the coil from inside the magnetic field.

b) Outer ends of the two brushes are connected to the galvanometer to show the flow of current in the given external circuit.

c) When the axle attached to the two rings is rotate such that the side AB moves up and the sides CD moves down in the magnetic field produced by permanent magnet.

d) After half rotation, side CD starts moving up and AB moving down. As a result, the direction of the induced current in both sides change, giving rise to the net induced current in the direction DCBA.

e) The current in the external circuit now flows from B1 to B2. Thus after every half rotation, the current in the respective side changes.

ROLE OF SPLIT RING IN ELECTRIC GENERATOR:

To get a direct current (DC), a split ring type commutator must be used. With this arrangement, one brush is at all times in contact with the side moving up in the magnetic field, while the other is in contact with the side moving down.

[NOTE: *Direct Current always flows in one direction.

*Alternative Current always reverses its direction periodically.]
