The Kushans are thought to be a nomadic tribe of Persian origin, who later migrated and set up an empire in Bactria (Central Asia). They continued their expansion and in the first century, spread to Afghanistan and northern India.
They promoted trade by sea as well as by land, linking trade from the southern parts of the Indian subcontinent, with that of trade from the Silk Road connecting East and West Asia.
The Greco-Buddhist art and culture followed by the Kushans thrived during their rule and have influenced art and culture of India.
