both runners and offsets are subaerial stem modifications.
runners: some plants spread to new niches with adventitious roots at the nodes.they form new plants when older plant dies
ex. grasses, strawberry-runners from underground stems
oxalis- runners from subaerial stems
offsets : in some aquatic plants a lateral branch of one internode length is found which bears a rosette of leaves at its tip and a tuft of balancing roots arising from the base of the discoid stem. this is called offset
