Explain the difference of hydrogen with alkali metals and halogen

Hydrogen is grouped in alkali metals because it combines with halogen, oxygen and sulphur to form compounds having similar chemical formula as alkali combines to form.
It is also grouped with halogen because like halogen it also exists as a diatomic molecule (H2).
