As with any write up, try and build up a story. You could start with the empires around the birth of Christ - the Roman empire, Alexander, etc. Then came the rise of the clergy (Christianity). In order to spread Christianity, various schools were set up. Thereafter, so as to train people for the factories in the Industrial Revolution, the curriculum was diversified from religious teaching to engineering, etc.  As a result of the spread of education, people started asking for the right to choose their own Government. That is what gave rise to democracy.  Talk of the suffrage revolution in the US. Also mention how many countries across the world yet do not have democracy. Also support your case with facts. The Economist has a very good index to indicate the levels of democracy in countries across the world.
