The different zones of a candle flame can be described as follows.

1) Dark zone: The dark zone is the zone which is formed just around the wick of the candle flame as the candle burns. As the candle is ignited by the matchstick, the melted wax moves up with the help of capillary action through the cotton wick and vaporizes just around the wick creating a dark zone. There is no air present here. It is the least hot of all the zones.

2) Luminous zone: The luminous zone is the zone which is moderately hot with limited oxygen supply as the molten wax further vaporizes and burns in the presence of oxygen and soot particles. The colour of this zone is yellowish which is the most associated with the burning of a candle and just above it an orange hue is formed as the candle continues to burn.

3) Non-luminous zone: The non-luminous zone is the zone of complete combustion. It looks like an “aura” formed around the candle and is almost invisible. It is the hottest zone as “around” the candle flame, the ample presence of oxygen aids in complete combustion.

4) Blue zone: The blue zone is another zone of incomplete combustion found at the base of the flame. Are you wondering why a bluish hue is formed here? This is due to the burning of carbon monoxide which releases carbon dioxide.

HI FRIEND,

The flame of candle has four zones; the zone from innermost to outermost of the flame is given as follows,

1. Blue zone: This zone is near by the base of the flame. In this zone, the fresh air speedily mixes with wax vapour produced by the molten wax. Thus, a fraction of wax vapour entirely burns and blue flame is formed.

2. Dark inner zone: This zone consists of un-burnt wax vapour given off by molten wax. This zone is the coldest part of the candle flame. As the decomposed carbon particles are present in this zone, therefore this zone is dark.

3. Luminous zone: This zone consists of a partial combustion with liberation of heat in large amount. It is hotter than that of dark inner zone of candle flame.

4. Non luminous zone: In this zone, complete combustion occurs and it is the hottest part of the candle flame which is hardly visible to our eye.
