The small intestine is formed of three sections: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The duodenum is the first section in the small intestine. Partly digested food travels from stomach through pyloric sphincter inside the duodenum. Pancreas and liver are also linked with this region. These two organs release their juice which mixes with the partly digested food.
Trypsinogen and chymotrypsinogen is other digestive enzyme that gets released inside duodenum. They help in the digestion of proteins into polypeptides. The polypeptides are then broken down into exopeptidases and dipeptidases and further into amino acids. Lipase and amylase are additional digestive juices that get released inside duodenum to digest the fats and carbohydrates. Fats are digested into glycerol and fatty acids. Amylase helps to digest carbohydrates to glucose.
The middle section is known as Jejunum and it is accountable for proper absorption of nutrients from the digested food. The ileum is the last section and is linked with large intestines. This section absorbs remaining nutrients empties the left over into large intestine
