To display this dialog box choose Drop Caps… from the Format menu.
Position
None: Click this to remove dropped capital formatting from the paragraph(s) selected in the Text Editor.
Dropped: Click this to drop the first character or characters in selected paragraph(s). The defined number of text lines are indented to provide the required space. The number of lines also determines the size of the dropped characters.
In Margin: Click this to drop the first character or characters in selected paragraph(s). The number of lines determines the size of the dropped characters. All lines are indented to make room for the dropped capitals.
Options
Characters to drop: Select the number of characters to drop at the start of each paragraph selected in the Text Editor.
Lines to drop: Select the size of the dropped character(s) by defining the number of lines they should occupy. When Dropped formatting is selected, the defined number of lines are indented.
Distance from text: Select the amount of space to be placed between the dropped character(s) and the text.

Drop caps are a decorative touch, done through typographical means, that you can apply to your document. Drop caps are traditionally done with the first letter of a chapter or some other major section of a document. To create drop caps, do the following:
Type your paragraph as you normally would.
Make sure the insertion point is somewhere within the paragraph.
Display the Insert tab of the ribbon.
In the Text group, click Drop Cap. Word displays some common options for drop caps.
Choose Drop Cap Options. Word displays the Drop Cap dialog box.

Change any other options to format your drop cap.
