The appearance of a cell changes according to the concentration of the solution.

Hypertonic Solution (more solute, less solvent)
Osmosis occurs and the cell shrinks as the solute content in the medium is more than that of the cell.

Isotonic Solution (equal amounts of solute and solvent)
There is no change in the appearance of the cell as the cell and the medium have the same concentration.

Hypotonic Solution (less solute, more solvent)
The cell swells as the water content in the medium is more than that of the cell.

Hope it helps...

it depends on the amount of concentration of solution
hypotonic solution :the area out will be high concentrated and inner area will be low concentrated so the cell gain the substances by osmosis.
isotonic solution; here in this solution the inner area and outer area both will be equally concentrated so the cell will not gain or loose substances by osmosis.
hypertonic solutions:here the inner area will be high concentrated and outer area will be less concentrated so the cell looses the substances by osmosis .
