Explain the effect of heat on conductors and semiconductors.

Increased temperature increases the resistance of conductors, but does not affect insulators. Resistance increases, in case of conductor, with increase in temperature and decreases, in case of insulator, due to increase in temperature. So, there are excess electrons in the conduction band of a conductor.

The reduction in flow of electrons or current flow means increase in the resistance. Thus, the electric current in the conductor decreases with the increase in temperature. Just like the conductors, the increase in the temperature increases the vibrations of atoms in the semiconductor
