Explanation:

To be blunt, most terrestrial carnivores would most likely die of starvation. The old Latin saying, "Canis caninam non est" (Dog does not eat dog) is for good reason…Contracting a fatal pathogen that is more evident in cannibalism (eating of the same species' flesh, such as what mad cow disease was). This disease of course was caused by farmers giving feed to their livestock that was laced with carcass pieces of slaughtered cattle.

But it can arise from carnivores consuming other carnivores, who of course are more related to one another. Carnivores instinctively know this as smell senses the risk. This main pathogen is the prion protein. Humans, such as the cannibals of Papua New Guinea during the 1950s also died from the virulent kuru prion.

However, a few carnivore scavengers can properly digest prions making them more immune like the hyena who will gleefully eat the carcass of a lion, one of its mortal enemies, or a vulture that will eat any predator's carcass as their immune system makes them virtually immune to any pathogen.

Of course when it comes to sea animals fish begat fish, in which most are carnivorous and some species of orcas specialize in eating carnivorous seals, while the leopard seal will consume fish, penguins and seals with relish
