EXECUTIVE POWERS

1) All executive functions of the union ( central ) government are performed in the name of the President

2) He appoints the Governors , Cheif Justices and other judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts .

3) He appoints the Attorney General of India and members and Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission .

4) He is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces .

LEGISLATIVE POWERS

1) He can address both the Houses of the Parliament and can send the message to either House at any time .

2) He can summon any House of the Parliament at any time .

3) He can prorogue both the Houses of the Parliament .

4) He gives his assent to the Bills passed by the Parliament .

The executive powers of the president are as follows:

  •    He is the executive head of the State.
  •    He makes all important appointments.
  •    He administers the Union Territories and Border Areas
  • He assumes to himself all or any of the functions of the government of the state when the state is put under the President's rule.

The legislative powers of the president are as follows:

  • He addresses first session of Parliament after the General Elections and the first session of each year.
  • He can issue ordinances when the parliament is not in session
  • A bill passed by the parliament must recieve hiss assent before it becomes an Act.
  • He can nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha and 2 Anglo-Indian members to the Lok Sabha.
