The experiment which demonstrated the wave nature of the electron is DAVISSON AND GERMER Experiment. He verified the de Broglie equation.

The experiment setup consists of the following materials :-

1) Electric Gun

2) Battery

3) Evacuated Chamber

4) Cylinder

5) Nickel Target

6) Galvanometer

7) Movable Detector

The illustration of the experiment is in the images which I have attached below. Kindly have a look over them.

Thank You !

Davison and Germer perform an experiment to certify the wave nature of the matter and also to support De Broglie.

Material Required :-

  1. Electric gun
  2. Detector
  3. Nickel crystal
  4. Hot tungsten cathode.

Procedure :-

Electrons from hot tugsten cathode are accelerated at different potential were incident on a nickel crystal. The intensities of scattered electrons at different directions was measured with the help of a detector attached with a galvanometer as shown in diagram.

Observation :-

1) There become a formation of kink(bump) at 50° from the from the incident beam.

2) The size of bump increases with the increase in accelerating voltage(till 54 volts).

3) The bump is maximum when accelerating voltage is 54 volts.

4) The size of bump starts decreasing with further increase in accelerating voltage.
