Justification of Unethical Behavior:

Justine, a young and upcoming attorney, knows that it's difficult to make an impression on her bosses and wants to become partner in the elite firm she works in. Hannah, a long-time paralegal in the office, starts helping Justine by highlighting her talents to other co-workers. Justine appreciates having someone who is willing to support her, and eventually, Hannah convinces one of the partners in the firm to give Justine a high-profile client by lying about her capabilities and experience. Justine and Hannah previously discussed this ploy, and although Justine knows it's a lie, she is desperate to become invaluable to the company. She works with the new high-profile client and dominates, winning the court case. Based on this scenario, were Justine's actions unethical?

Although Justine was able to follow through with and win the high-profile case, Hannah and Justine still lied for personal gain. These types of issues can arise in the business world; small lies or manipulations, all for a higher purpose.

So what is unethical behavior? Unethical behavior is an action (or actions) against the morals or rules of a person, business, or organization. Since morality varies based on the person or business, requirements of ethics can change as well, making the target of ethical behavior hard to hit sometimes.
