Hydrogen shows similarity with alkali metals as well as halogens because of its electronic configuration , physical and chemical property.

Explanation:

Hydrogen has only one electron in its only shell . Thus Hydrogen has only 1 valence electron in its outer most orbit which is similar to the electronic configuration of alkali metals. Hydrogen needs only 1 electron to gain its stability which is similar to the property of halogens that needs only one electron to complete their octet . Hydrogen gains one electron to hydride ions just like halogen gains one electron to form halide ions.

Hydrogen can also loose one electron to form hydrogen ions just like alkai metals loose an electron to form positive metal ions.
