Oxidation: A chemical reaction in which a substance gains oxygen is called oxidation. 2CuO, Cu is oxidised to CuO. (b) Reduction: A chemical reaction in which a substance loses oxygen is called reduction. ZnO + C → Zn + CO, ZnO is reduced to Zn.
