The mob protesting against the imprisonment of Gandhiji in 1930, was brutally killed by British.

The brutality was to that extent, where women and children were also not spared. The imprisonment of Gandhiji had caused public fury.

Additionally, the atrocities of government in Peshawar and communal tension in Solapur added to mass fury at Solapur and hence Government declared Martial Law to control the situation at the place and bring about the peace.
