1) Saponification

- it is the process of preperation of soap.

-its a reaction between carboxylic acid and base.

2) Esterification

- it is the process of preparing ester.

-it is reaction between alcohol and carboxylic acid.

Saponification is a process that involves conversion of fat or oil into soap and alcohol by the action of heat in the presence of aqueous alkali.

The alkaline hydrolysis of fatty acids is

termed as saponification.

ii) Esterification:

The reaction of an alcohol with a carboxylic acid gives a compound having fruity odour. This compound is called an ester and the reaction is called esterification. Ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of conc. H2SO4 to form ethyl
