Explain the following: There is hardly any increase in atomic size with increasing atomic numbers, in a series of transition metals.

there is hardly any increase in the atomic size with increasing atomic number because the filling of f orbitals starts before the d oritals and we knw that the f orbitals have poor shielding effect,so with growing nuclear charge the electrons are attracted more towards the nucleus therefore there is no significant effect on d size.
