using annual rings we can measure the age of the tree these are formed once A year . During winter season the tree is with more leafed and branches so the tree requires more water and minerals so the wood formed is called soft wood with more xylem and phloem And during autumn the tree with less leaves and branches so plant requires less water and minerals so wood formed is called hard wood so these both woods responsible for formation of annual rings
