Explain the formation of F2 molecule on the basis of PP overlap

Fluorine has a total of 9 electrons

the eletronic configration of fluorine is 1S^2 2S^2 2P^5;

it requires one more electron to attain a stable configration , therefore the flourine atom shares an electron from p orbital which leads to the formation of an sigma bong between them. PP head to head overlap takes place in formation of fluorine.
