The Himalayas were formed as a result of the collision between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate. As a result of this collision, the sedimentary rocks which were settled in the large-scale depression in the Earth's crust called Tethys were folded and formed the Himalayas.

The formation of Himalayas in short:

  • The Himalayas were created as a outcome of the 'collision' between the 'Indian Plate' and the 'Eurasian Plate'.
  • Due to the convectional currents, the crust was divided into many parts.
  • The Indo–Australian plate got separated from the Gondwanaland and tended towards the north.
  • As it tended towards the north, it clashed with the Eurasian plate. As a consequence of this collision, the 'sedimentary rocks' which were resided in the 'large-scale depression' in the crust of the earth called Tethys.
  • This were 'overlapped' leads to the 'formed the Himalayas'.
