Where as Chlorine is a non metal with high electronegativity, it contain 7 electron in its outermost shell. Therefore it gains an electron to complete its octet

The bond formed between chlorine and magnesium is ionic bond as electrons are transferred from Mg to Cl.
Two properties of MgCl2 are as follow:
1. It is most commonly used for dust control and road stabilization.
