The Northern plains or the great plains in India were formed from the sedimentary deposits - alluvium, brought by the rivers from the Himalayas by its erosion. The plains were formed by layers of different sediments of different sizes in successive deposits and features are as follows

1. it has been performed by the 3 major river systems -

1 :-Indus

2 :-Ganga

3 :-Brahmaputra .

2. The northern plain are about 2400 km long and 240 to 320 km broad.

3. Agriculturally it is the most productive area because of rich soil cover , adequate water supply and favourable climate.

4.The northern plains are classified into 4 sections due to the different relif : Bhabar, Terai , Bhangar , Khadar.

These plains are situated to the south of the Himalayas and north of peninsular plateau. This plain are very fertile and plain. these are formed by the alluvi deposit slip laid down the Himalayan river especially indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra.
